At age 90, Ann can look back on a lifetime of philanthropy and the rewards that come from giving.

Raised in Piedmont, California, she graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a bachelor’s degree in speech, drama, and psychology. She headed for New York City, where she worked with the British film production company J. Arthur Rank. She returned to San Francisco, where she met and married William Crump, who served as a diplomatic courier for the U.S. State Department, pursued a career in marketing, and became an artist in retirement.

Ann and Bill spent 55 years in Pacific Heights, where she carved out her own path in philanthropy. She assumed leadership positions on six boards in San Francisco, including stints as president of the California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) Women’s Board and president of the board of the Children’s Theatre Association of San Francisco.

Her drama experience stood her in good stead. “I was always involved in school theater, and I acted in many Children’s Theatre plays,” she said. “I also performed in the Mountain Play and Cove Players shows in Marin.”

In 2009, Ann and Bill moved to The Tamalpais Marin senior living community, where today Ann enjoys swimming, playing poker and dominoes, and socializing with her many friends. It was there that they got to know charity_nickname]. “We both made several trips to the Emergency Department and received superb care,” Ann said. “It is wonderful to have an excellent hospital so close by!”

In 2010, friends invited them to join a table at MarinHealth Foundation’s annual black tie gala. Ann hasn’t missed a gala since. After Bill passed in 2017, Ann began inviting their son Stephen, a retired physician who is now teaching, and his wife Lisa, who live in San Rafael with their son Charles.

“At my age, I’m one of the oldest people there, and I still love going,” Ann said.

Ann not only supports the gala, she also contributed to charity_nickname]’s Building Better Health Campaign and made a legacy gift through her trust to help ensure that charity_nickname] can continue, as she says, “to set the standard for leading-edge, personalized healthcare.”

“Support is more than a donation,” she said. “It’s an investment in our community.”
